It’s officially a new year. And, a new year means new resolutions. Since many college students make the resolution, “To do better in school,” this blog entry will offer 20 suggestions for making small changes that could possibly lead to big changes in course grades. Even just adopting one or two of these changes could help a student perform better in his or her classes. Good luck this term and happy 2011!
1. Get a school planner and write down all class assignments and their deadlines. 2. Create a study schedule. 3. Designate a permanent day and time for reading. 4. Turn off your cell phone when studying. 5. Keep class notes and handouts in a folder, notebook, or binder. 6. Use a highlighter when taking notes to call out the important points. 7. Get more sleep. 8. Develop a relaxation technique to handle stress—exercise, meditate, etc. 9. Participate in class. 10. Eat healthy—fuel your brain. 11. Go to class. 12. Finish all reading assignments. 13. Go to instructor office hours whenever you have a question. 14. Join a study group (or form one). 15. Register for a class that interests you. 16. Go to your school’s writing center for help with papers. 17. Go to the library to study. 18. Save important class notes and books for future reference. 19. Arrive to class ten minutes early. 20. Take a break once in a while and have fun!
