Review: Online Research Databases
Tuesday, December 14, 2010 by Anna Kendall

On most college library websites, there are links to search for periodical articles.
These sources are often found through large electronic databases connected
to your school’s library. If you’re unfamiliar with searching for articles online,
ask someone at the library’s reference desk to give you a brief tutorial. You also
might find assistance through the “help” section on the library’s website.

Once you locate the listing of databases (you might have to click
on a link for the “A–Z database listing”), scroll through the list to see which
databases apply to your research topic. Most colleges provide a brief
description of each database, and the listing of databases should cover a wide
range of academic fields; therefore, you should be able to find a few databases
that contain articles for the particular topic you’re researching. To save time,
focus your search on the databases that provide “full-text” articles. Note: It’s also
important to remember that you’ll need your school ID and password to access
most of these databases via your school’s library site.
